William Shakespeare was born in 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon. When he was eighteen he married Anne Hathway, who at the time was twenty six years old. Six months later they had their first child, a baby girl. Two years after that they had twins. One died at the age of eleven. When Shakespeare was twenty three they moved from Stratford to London where ha began to work at the Globe theatre. The theatre opened in 1598. It could seat up to three thousand people in it's octangular shape. The poor sat right infront of the stage, it was also known as the peanut gallery. The more rich people sat up at the top, in the balconies. It was the only real time the rich and poor associated with each other. Sadly the theatre burned down in 1613, thought to of been because of a cannon fire during a performance of Henry the seventh.
Shakespeare's first paid work was as a poet. Even though he only went to school until he was fifteen, and never was formally educated after that. Shakespeare is famous for his poetry, but best known for his plays. Shakespeare wrote thirty eight plays all together in his career.
In 1611 Shakespeare retired and moved back to Stratford. Where he died in 1616, nobody knew for sure how he died, but some believe it was from heavy drinking. His grave stone is engraved with what says, whoever moved his bones will be cursed.
